Learning + Play

Redevelopment of an existing public play park for Newmarket Town Council, introducing water play and bespoke play elements within a highly constrained budget.

The design creates a sequence of different play experiences, including climbing and movement, accessible sand play, sensory water play and quieter places to gather. Bespoke elements were developed alongside the play equipment manufacturer and specialist water-play contractor, with the proposals refined to balance ambition, cost, durability and long-term maintenance.

Working closely with the Town Council, project manager and specialist suppliers, the project was developed through detailed design and tender and monitored through construction, coordinating specifications, manufacture, deliveries and installation. Six new trees and limited new planting introduce shade and landscape structure within a predominantly hard-wearing public play environment.
